About Copperbottom's Folly
Welcome to Copperbottom's Folly. Copperbottom's Folly was born out of a desire for a Ultima Online shard that had a balanced system of fighting, crafting and all other skills. The shard was created by Niles Smokebeam and Kabus. Niles has been playing Ultima Online on various servers for about 10 years. Kabus has been playing for over 5 years.
There are too many customs to mention. We have started a message board to hopefully list as many as possible. You can check it out here. Please register for an account and join us on the board. It is a great place to communicate. Before you start to play, please read the shard rules and follow them.
Many of the dungeons in the game have been modified from the versions most people are familiar with. Dungeons will allow players of all skill levels and party sizes to enjoy a challenging experience. We have tried to keep Trammel fairly easy for new users to bump up their skills. There are some Dire Wolves running around and a few other surprises, but, Felucca has become the real challenge for even the most seasoned vet. It will open up once your character no longer has 'young' status. So, what are you waiting for, join Copperbottom's Folly now.
Connecting
Server: simgalaxy.com
Port: 2593
The server is rarely down, so, we are not including a status section. If we are doing some maintenance on Copperbottom's Folly, please check here for updates.
IMPORTANT: Do not upgrade your Ultima Online client past 6.0.14. We have found that upgrading to the 7.0.0 and beyond causes clients to lock up after connection.
IMPORTANT: Ultima Online free shards (Like Copperbottom's Folly) require that you have the OSI client encryption removed when connecting. That sounds like a mouthful, but, it really isn't. A great and handy program can be used to both remove that encryption and connect to free servers like ours. That program is Razor. You can get a copy of Razor here: RunUO Web Site.
Character Vitals
New Character Stat Cap: 325
New Character Skill Cap: 800
Aww, are you kidding?!? A stat and skill cap, come on, we want to run roughshot over the land and have unlimited power!
When the shard owners and developers sat down and planned out what would eventually become Copperbottom's Folly, we were very concerned with balance. One thing that became obvious was that if there was no skill cap (or if it was too high) one character could do everything. She could make scrolls, cook up potions, cast spells, fight with swords, foils, or even animals while making chairs, armor and bows. You see our point. Since many of the nice craftable items in the game rely on multiple crafting skills (forges take blacksmithing and carpentry, pet leashes require taming and tinkering, etc.). In addition, we would like to encourage parties of people to adventure throughout the land, with a skill cap, this insures that parties of players will need multiple characters with a variety of skills to succeed. Therefore, we have decided to put a cap of 800 skill points on new players. We are not saying that it is impossible to raise that beyond 800... just that 800 is the cap for a standard, new, player.
